Poison Apple Baby Costume
Make a Snow White poison apple that looks just like the poison apple that the evil queen gave to Snow White! This fun Snow White apple tutorial takes just a few minutes and makes the perfect Halloween decoration or Halloween costume prop.
While I love my standard Halloween decorations I pull out every year, I wanted to try something a little different.
After a lot of brainstorming, I decided to make a bunch of Snow White poison apple props to put inside a cauldron!
The visual of the evil Queen creating the poison apple for poor Snow White always stuck with me.
I knew this would be such a fun and unique way to decorate for Halloween!
I couldn't be prouder of how these gorgeous apples turned out.

Snow White Poison Apple Video
Before I share exactly how to make your own poison apple, be sure to watch the short video clip below.
This is the famous scene of Snow White taking a bite of the queen's poison apple.
Pay close attention to the apple, and notice how it changes color from green to white.

How to Make a Snow White Poison Apple
Learn step-by-step how to make your own Snow White apples for Halloween!
Draw the Face
The first step is to draw the face on with a black Sharpie.
I used a black Sharpie because they are permanent and I knew my face would stay on the shiny plastic apple surface if I used a Sharpie.
To make the perfect poison apple face, I paused the video I shared above to the scene in the movie when the witch pulls the apple out of the potion she made.
There are a few different apple face looks you could choose, so play around with it and pause it on your favorite!
Now simply draw the drooping face with the Sharpie onto the apple.
Make sure to draw the drips all the way around the entire apple.
I made my drips go high and low to add more visual interest.
Don't worry about getting the face perfect!
We're creating a dropping, dark, poisonous apple with a creepy face, so it's okay if it looks a little wonky.
Helpful Tips:
- Before creating each apple face, set the apple on a counter or table to see how it stands.
- Make the face on the side of the apple that will be seen the best.
- Don't draw too low on the apple, or else the bottom drips won't be seen!
Trace the Face with Hot Glue
To create more dimension on the Snow White apple and make it look more realistic, just trace over the Sharpie face with hot glue.
Try to keep the amount of glue coming out consistent- slow and steady is best here so it looks as even as possible.
Let the hot glue dry, then peel up any hot glue strings that may be one the apples.
Paint the Face
Now comes the fun part.
This is where the Snow White poison apple really starts to look good!
You saw in the above video that the Snow White apple started green, but turned white after a few seconds.
I had a hard time deciding whether I wanted to make green apples or white apples, so I made both!
What paint looks best?
I tried a few different paint types and colors to see what looked the best.
- White apples- I tested a shiny pearl white paint and a very flat matte chalk paint. I loved the look of the chalk paint the best and used this paint to paint the rest of the white apples.
- Green apples- I tested a bright green and a pearl green craft paint. I went with the green pearl paint because I loved the shine and depth it gave to the apples.
Of course you can use whatever paint you would like!
I just LOVE the look of the white matte poison apples and the shiny, pearly green apples.
Here's what an apple looked like after the first coat of paint. Not great, right?
BUT, the magic happens after a few coats of paint.
Each coat fills in the gaps and lessens the streaks and the apples just start looking better and better.
I ended doing about 3 coats on each apple, but this is totally going to depend on the paint you're using, how much paint you're applying, etc.
Helpful Tips:
- If you paint where you're not supposed to or make a mistake, it's okay! Just use a damp paper towel to wipe it up quickly.
- Use a small paintbrush to paint the hot glue, around the stem, and around the eyes.
- Use a medium brush to cover the larger surfaces around the apple.
- Let the paint dry between each coat. Work on the next apple while the paint is drying if you're making multiple poison apples.
Now just let the apples dry.
Once dry, they are ready to display!
How to Use the Snow White Poison Apples
As Halloween Decorations
These apples look AMAZING when put together in a Halloween cauldron.
I placed the white and green poison apples in the cauldron on my buffet and left a few sitting next to it.
The combination of white and green apples together make me so happy!
The white one matched my Snow White poison apple mug from Disneyland just perfectly!
If all you have is a cheap plastic Halloween cauldron, use my easy tutorial to turn it into a realistic cauldron that looks like it belongs to a real witch!
You can also make a very cool fake fire prop to go with it with just a few basic supplies.
